So we live in the offical sticks of CA. Like a literal Walnut orchard. Yes, I am allergic to walnuts and I understand the irony...
We like it out here because we can afford 2 acres, it is quiet and private, not a lot of traffic unless you get caught behind a tractor. We have some great friends with kids two houses down that are like family. I am home alone a lot with DH working out of town and I have finally convinced myself that nothing happens out here and I am safe!!
So I get a call from my neighbor after I got to work this morning and there was not ONE but TWO frikin SHOOTINGS!! IN THE COUNTRY!! One man was killed, the other just injured. It seems that people have a short fuse in the orchards. I think there may be about 20 houses within a one mile radius of me. That is a shooting at 10% of the houses near me. YIKES.
This tells me a few things about my neighborhood.
1. It is not a good idea to steal from these people. They are under the impression that theft is a capitol crime.
2. If anyone deserves to have rubber testicles hanging off of their f-350's it is said neighbors.
I am staying at my parents house until things calm down in the 'hood

Wife vs Stash
My dh is a fabulous man. Hard working, sweet, funny, great dad.... but his facial hair and I have an unpleasant history dating back to our wedding. Lets just say he is the opposite of "metro" like showering is his idea of extensive grooming.
He is a firefighter that has had only one measly fire in the last 2 months. So his crew decides to get their " rally stash"on, and of course dh is all about it. Fine, his face, who cares. Then I remember that we are getting the babes 6 month pics done this week. DANG IT! How do I not come across like a Kate Goslin bitch and still have the perfect family pictures? Should I withhold doing it? Be extra nice so he wants to return the favor? Reschedule?
I don't know, but I have a feeling the stash will win.

I think it is obvious how this fight turned out....

life of the fire wife...aka single mother
DH is a wildland firefighter. He is home all winter and gone all summer. It is a little tiring, but we manage. Wine helps.
Wake up at 6
try to shower without waking the babe, who is in our bed since dh is not...
get ready for work
wake babe up change diaper from overnight
get breastpump, lunch, diaper bag, purse, cell phone in car,
oh, and babe also in car
Get babe to mil or moms house for the day
get to work already tired, drink 3 cups of coffee
work all day, aka referee for adults that should be able to solve their own problems but cant, probably because of being left to cry it out as infants
pump no less than 3 times at work
get baby, go home
go to gym for 25 min before they tell me that babe is crying. Further proof that she wants her milk supply to stay fat and sassy.
come home and get babe in bath.
nurse for ever, until babe falls asleep. Try to put her in crib without waking. It is now after 8 pm.
DH calls. talk for 4 min. miss you...love you...hows that fire treating you?
take shower, pack for next day, watch tv, read, try not to get scared by every little sound since you are alone in the country with no husbandly protection. Who needs it? You are a mean mama bear. You will cut a bitch. Yes... sleepy time....
3am babe is starving.
4 am switch sides... growing girl
5am one more time...
6 am And I am up!!
Lets do it again!

Loving cloth...

This is a link to a new cloth diaper that I would like to try. As you know I have been cd since the babe was born 6 months ago. I am always looking for new diapers to try. Some might call it an "addiction" or an "obsession" well, dh thinks so at least. I prefer to think it is an "interest"
Some people may think I am crazy. I know this because they occasionally tell me, and I can read the eye rolls. I am not just cloth diapering to drive people crazy and to be self rightious, although those are benefits, I also like to save money. I have spent $500 ish on cloth diapers and we can use those for the next baby. If we have another.... we will... someday.... ok panic attack about another baby over.
If you like cuteness, softness, economical-ness and green ness, then join the cloth revolution. It is the way of the future. Deal with it.
